Care Guide
Gently clean with a soft, damp cloth. For stubborn stains, treat with lukewarm water and a few drops of mild soap. Wipe away any residue and allow to air dry before use. Never use harsh or abrasive cleaners as this can cause damage to the material and compromise its water-resistant properties. For added protection and durability, we recommend applying carnauba wax or beeswax regularly.
Never leave your furry friend unattended wearing a bandana, bow tie or any other accessory. They are not chew proof, and are best kept away from teething puppies and dogs who like to chew.

What’s so special about our dog gear? Well, it's all about the bark

From the bark of the Cork Oak...
In the unique Montados of Portugal, the mighty Cork Oak trees stand tall. Once they reach maturity at 25 years, the outer bark is carefully harvested every nine years, allowing the tree to regenerate naturally. As it grows, the Cork Oak absorbs carbon dioxide, helping purify the air, while its canopy offers shelter and food for wildlife.

...to consciously made dog goods.
The cork bark is made into sheets and bonded to fabric, creating a durable, sustainable alternative to animal leather and synthetic materials.
At Ohminme, we turn this incredible material into beautifully handcrafted dog goods. Each piece is thoughtfully designed, hand-painted, and paired with solid brass hardware. With its natural water- and stain-resistance, our cork gear is perfect for everyday adventures.

The Collar FAQ
Cork Leather:
- Pros: Made from the bark of cork oak trees, a renewable resource. The bark is harvested sustainably, allowing the tree to continue growing and absorbing CO2. It’s biodegradable, water-resistant, and durable.
- Cons: Limited color and texture options compared to animal leather. Many low-quality cork fabrics are glued onto synthetic backings like polyester, contributing to microplastics. It takes about 25 years for a cork oak tree to mature, followed by 9 years between each harvest.
Animal Leather:
- Pros: Offers a classic look and feel, with a wide range of textures and colors. Durable and ages well with proper care.
- Cons: Significant environmental impact from livestock farming, including deforestation and greenhouse gas emissions. Chemical treatments make it non-biodegradable. Ethical concerns regarding animal welfare.
Choosing between cork leather and animal leather depends on individual preferences, ethical considerations, and environmental priorities. Cork leather offers a more sustainable alternative with modern functionality, while animal leather retains a timeless appeal but raises environmental and ethical concerns.
Note: We source our cork leather from a family business in Portugal. Each cork sheet is supported by GOTS organic cotton and bonded by suberin, a natural adhesive found in cork. Completely free from synthetic materials, our cork leather represents highest quality and pure luxury!
Your dog's comfort is our top priority, which is why our collars, crafted from 100% plant-based cork leather, offer numerous benefits. The cork leather has a soft, luxurious feel while maintaining durability, ensuring lasting comfort for your dog.
Opting for a wider collar aids in evenly distributing pressure around your dog's neck, particularly beneficial for dogs prone to pulling or with neck sensitivity, thus reducing the risk of strain during walks. Plus, you'll have peace of mind knowing it's completely natural and biodegradable, returning to the earth at the end of its use without leaving behind any harmful microplastics.
While we don't offer engraving directly on collars at this time, you can still add a personal touch with our custom name tags. These natural and lightweight ID tags can be engraved with your dog's name and your phone number, making them a stylish and practical addition to your dog's collar or harness.
Absolutely! Don’t be fooled by the soft and supple feel - cork leather is naturally strong, scratch-resistant, and water-resistant, making it perfect for daily walkies, muddy adventures, and everything in between.
It’s lightweight and gentle on your dog’s neck, but tough enough to handle pulling and everyday wear and tear. Plus, it’s super easy to clean and doesn’t mind getting wet.
Unlike synthetic materials, our cork leather collars , harnesses, and leashes are entirely natural. So when your pup’s collar reaches the end of its journey, it can break down in your compost bin without leaving behind any nasties (visit our Happy Earth Program to learn more).
Durable, stylish, and kind to the planet - what’s not to love?
We’ve got 4 adjustable sizes to suit most pups - extra small, small, medium, and large. Just check our size guide to find the best fit, and if you’re unsure, we’re always happy to help.
When choosing a collar for your dog, follow these steps:
1. Measure your dog's neck: Use a soft tape measure to get the circumference of your dog's neck where the collar will sit naturally.
2. Adjustability: Choose a collar that can be easily adjusted to fit your dog comfortably. Each collar comes with 5 holes, allowing you to find the perfect fit for your dog.
3. Two-finger rule: Ensure you can fit 1-2 fingers between the collar and your dog's neck to confirm it's snug but not too tight.
4. Safety considerations: Avoid collars that are too tight (causing discomfort) or too loose (risking slipping off or getting caught).
5. Choose the larger size: If your dog is between sizes, it's best to choose the larger size and adjust it for a more comfortable fit.
By following these guidelines, you can ensure your dog's collar is both safe and comfortable.
It’s easy! Just wipe it down with a soft, damp cloth. For extra muddy adventures, a few drops of lukewarm water and mild soap will do the trick. We don't recommend soaking, scrubbing or machine washing.
Want to give it some extra love? Apply beeswax or carnauba wax every now and then for extra protection.
Psst... unlike animal leather, cork doesn’t mind getting wet. And compared to fabric collars, our cork collars are a breeze to keep clean (no more scrubbing mystery stains!). Adventure-ready and easy to care for, just how we like it!
